Safaris
The untouched wilderness offers a great variety
of activities. Here are some examples during
the summer months:
The main attraction during the summer time is White Water Rafting on Kitkajoki.
This is possible for families with children older than 5 years on the family route
and over 18 years on the wilde route.
The more relaxed version of water sport is a Canoe tour on the Oulanka river.
There are 2 starting points and 3 differend points where it´s possible to stop your tour.
The rivers and lakes in the Kuusamo region are famous for the variety of fish.
The rivers Kuusinki and Kitkajoki offer the challange for fly fishers to catch the famous brown trout.
The most popular hiking route in Kuusamo is the 80-kilometre Karhunkierros Trail (Bear's Trail). The
ravines, Arctic fells and primeval forests provide unforgettable experiences along the route.
As a shorter alternity is the PIENI KARHUNKIERROS, the small Bear´s Trail.
It beginns in Juuma and is 12 Km long.
There are many suitable trails for Nordic Walking and Mountainbiking.
Canoe Safari
Paddling tour on the Oulankajoki
Start is beneath the Kiutaköngäs Waterfall and the route goes through the Oulanka National Park till Jäkälämutka,
near the Russian frontier.
The distance is 24 km and the duration is 5 - 6 hours incl. a snack by the open camp-fire.

Guided Canoeing tour Savilampi - Oulanka Visitor Centre
Duration: 3 - 4 h Length of journey: 12 km Tour rating: Easy but the greater falls must be bypassed

Price include: Canoe and equipment (life jacket, paddle, map and water tight bag), transfers back from Oulanka

NOTE! There are several unlocked huts and lean-to shelters along the riverbanks where to stay overnight free of
charge. Please obey the general national park area rules of conduct in Oulanka National Park area. Camping is
only allowed in shelter cabins and specific locations reserved for camping.
Rafting
Family tour from Käylä – Juuma
Start from Käylä and the tour ends in Juuma Village.
This route is suitable for families with children over 5 years.
The children in the age of 5 - 12 Years have to be accompanied by one of their parents. Over 12
years they need to accompanied by an adult.
The distance is 14 km and we cross 7 rapids with the classifications I - III.
Duration: 2 hours

River adventure from Juuma – Jäkälämutka
Start from Juuma Village and ends in Jäkälämutka. The min. age is 18 years.
Distance is 23 km and we cross rapids with the classifications I - IV.
Before Jyrävä, with the classification VI, we leave the boats and cross over the hill by foot.
Duration: 5 - 6 hours incl. a snack by the open camp-fire.

Hiking
The famous Hiking trail
KARHUNKIERROS
the Bear trail is 80 Km long, when starting in Hautajärvi.
If you want to start in Ristikallio, it´s only 65 Km.
In addition there is also the
PIENI KARHUNKIERROS
the small Bear trail.
This one is a 12 Km long round way in Juuma, this trail is also suitable for families
with smaller kid´s.
For groups over 10 Persons, we can organize guided hikes on part of the big Bear trail or the
small Bear trail.
Also the Transfer from our Motel to Ristikallio or Hautajärvi is possible to book.
Fishing excursions
The lakes and rivers in Kuusamo and Ruka offer all kind of fishing possibilities. In summer
there is possibility for fly fishing, lake trolling and spinning.
In winter, net fishing and ice fishing are traditional ways of catching the local fish, as soon as
the ice is thick enough to safely walking and driving Snow Scooter on.
The rivers Kuusinki, Oulanka and Kitka are well known for Fly fishing excursions to catch the
brown trout as well as grayling.
Perch, white fish and pike can be found in all local lakes and ponds, in some lakes it is also
possible to catch lake trout and rainbow trout.
In Cooperation with local companies, we organize excursions for fly fishing, spinning and lake
trolling. There is also the possibility to rent equipment from them.
In summer and winter it is possible for groups to take part in an net fishing trip with local
fishermen and the catch will be cleaned and prepared in different ways afterwards.
